Cases of cyber fraud are rising at an alarming rate in the eastern area of Ahmedabad. A young man residing in the Nikol area suffered a heavy loss after downloading an APK file sent to his WhatsApp from an unknown number. Cybercriminals hacked his mobile phone and transferred ₹1,51,000 from his bank account online. Following a complaint lodged at the Krishnanagar Police Station, police registered a case and initiated an investigation.
What Happened?
According to available details, 44-year-old Kamleshbhai Babubhai Bhuva, a resident of Shreenath Park (opposite the Power House) on Nikol Road, filed the police complaint. On September 2, 2026, Kamleshbhai received an APK (Android Package) file on WhatsApp from an unknown number.
Upon clicking and downloading the file, cybercriminals used technology to completely hack his mobile phone. Subsequently, without his knowledge, a total of ₹1,51,000 was transferred in installments from his bank account to an unknown account.
Police Investigation and Action
Kamleshbhai was shocked when he received transaction messages for the money debited from his account and immediately contacted the Krishnanagar Police Station. A formal complaint was registered on September 18, 2026. Considering the gravity of the crime, Police Inspector V. H. Joshi took charge of the investigation with the support of Technical Surveillance and the Cyber Cell. Authorities are tracing the suspects based on the location of the beneficiary bank account and the IP address of the WhatsApp number.
