AHMEDABAD: In a major crackdown on illegal drug trade following directives from top police officials, the Danilimda Police NDPS Squad arrested a 49-year-old man caught selling cannabis in public. Contraband worth ₹10,000 was seized during the raid.
Tip-Off Leads to Arrest
Under the guidance of Senior Police Inspector C.T. Desai and PSI D.J. Solanki, a surveillance team was conducting routine patrolling in the Danilimda area. Head Constable Vishwajitsinh Kiritsinh and Police Constable Nitinkumar Arunbhai received discrete, actionable intelligence regarding an individual peddling narcotics near Hazrate Mosque on Khajuri Road, Barrel Market.
Acting swiftly on the information, police cordoned off the open space near the mosque and caught the suspect red-handed.
Seizure and Accused Details
- Arrested Accused: Yunus alias Pipe, son of Abdul Rehman Rangrej (Age: 49), resident of Citizen Nagar, near Gosiya Mosque, Barrel Market, Danilimda, Ahmedabad.
- Seized Contraband: 200 grams of illegal cannabis (ganja) valued at ₹10,000, possessed without any valid permit.
Main Supplier Wanted
During preliminary questioning, the arrested suspect disclosed that the contraband was supplied to him by Salman alias Patlo, son of Mohd. Ashraf Sayeed, residing at A-One Nagar, Danilimda. Police have launched a manhunt to trace and arrest the absconding supplier.
Criminal Antecedents
Police officials revealed that the arrested accused, Yunus alias Pipe, is a repeat offender with a history of serious criminal cases registered at Danilimda Police Station, including housebreaking, theft, and assault (IPC Sections 454, 457, 380, 324, 506(2), 294(b), and GP Act 135(1)). The wanted suspect, Salman alias Patlo, also has a prior criminal record for physical assault (IPC Sections 324, 323, 114).
An FIR has been registered at Danilimda Police Station under Sections 8(c), 20(b)(ii)(A), and 29 of the NDPS Act, and further investigation is currently underway.
