Ahmedabad: The Kagdapith Police Station has cracked a case involving the theft of ATM cards and subsequent fraudulent withdrawals, leading to the arrest of one individual.
According to police reports, the accused operated by targeting ATM machine rooms, where he would steal cards either left behind by customers or through deceptive tactics. He would then attempt to ascertain the card’s PIN and proceed to withdraw cash.
The successful apprehension followed directives from senior police officials to combat the rising tide of cyber fraud and related offenses. Senior Police Inspector S.A. Gohil provided guidance to the team that carried out the operation.
Police Inspector S.S. Solanki and the surveillance squad were on patrol when they received crucial information that led them to the accused. The arrested individual has been identified as Amitkumar Sureshkumar Jain, 35 years old, with addresses in Surat and Bangalore.
Authorities have recovered key evidence, including ATM card number-176, an Aadhaar card, and ₹25,000 in cash. The accused faces charges under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the IT Act.
Police investigations have also revealed that the accused has a prior criminal record, with a case registered against him for theft.

In light of this incident, the Ahmedabad City Police have issued a set of safety guidelines for ATM cardholders:
* Exercise caution and protect your ATM card and PIN at all times.
* Be vigilant of your surroundings while using ATM machines.
* Report any unauthorized transactions or loss of your card to the bank immediately.
* Activate SMS alerts or bank notifications for transaction updates.
* Avoid using easily guessable PINs such as birthdates or vehicle numbers.
The police department emphasizes the importance of vigilance to prevent such crimes.
